Grunge Overlay with PSP

Today I have a tutorial for you to help with creating Grunge Textured Overlays and how to use them to colour your paper designs.

Tools Needed:
- Paint Shop Pro - available here - This tutorial was written for PSPXII, but other versions should work.
- You will need my pattern supplies to complete this tutorial, click here to download my overlay “Grunge Overlay Paper Texture MBH” .
Step 1. Open Texture image in PSP (Here is the one I used “Grunge Overlay Paper Texture MBH” for this tutorial)
Step 2. Duplicate Image, click on Windows and select Duplicate. Close the original texture image.
Step 3. Convert image to a grey scaled image, click on Image and select Greyscale.
Step 4. Resize your texture image by clicking on Image, Resize. Adjust settings to 2400 x 2400 pixels, and make sure to uncheck lock aspect ratio.
Here is a sample of how your greyscale texture should now appear.
Step 5. Click on Layers, Promote background to Layer
Step 6. Before we can add the desired colour for the paper, you need to select Image and click on Increase Color Depth to 8 Bit RGB
Step 7. Next create a new layer, click on Layers, New Raster Layer.
Step 8. Move your new layer to the bottom by clicking on Layer, select Arrange, and click on Send to bottom.
Step 9. Using the materials pallet select you background colour.
Step 10. Using the flood fill tool from the toolsbar, click the Flood fill inside of your new layer to fill it with your choice of colour
Step 11. Make Raster 1 (texture layer) the active layer by clicking on it from the layer pallet.
Step 12. Adjust the Blend Mode to Soft Light or Overlay (depending on the look you desire)
Step 13. Adjust the Opacity between 40 to 80 (depending on the look you desire)
Step 14. Save your paper as a JPG, File Export JPG with compression of 10
