Saving Your Digital Scapbook Pages
Hands up if you, like me, have finished creating a stunning digital scrapbook page only to find when you printed the page it did not appear on paper as it did on your computer?
And then there is the oh so annoying message you see when you create your page or elements in one program and then try to open it in another graphics program, only to find it will not work or is not compatible GRR that annoys me to no end.. Until today
Here are a few tricks I have found that help me with saving my digital scrapbook pages for use with different graphic programs, printing and evening saving for later use maybe on a DVD home movie.
Use PNG files for multiple graphic program compatibility.
- Because we all use different software (programs) to create our digital scrapbook pages using a png file type.
- PNG files are recongised by the majority of graphic editing programs today and is the most suitable file format to use without losing the quality resolution of your original page or element.
When printing your pages, merge your files and save the JPG or JPEG with a 200 or 300 DIP.
- Create your scrapbook pages on a canvas with 200dpi to 300dpi quality. This will ensure you have the best possible printing results and quality of your printed pages.
- All layers in your scrapbook page should be merged before saving to a JPG or JPEG file. If not you may find that parts of your scrap page do not print as they appear on your computer screen.
- Before you print your scrapbook page you first need to save your creation as a JPG or JPEG file.
Always save your original creation in your graphic programs standard file format.
- The finsihed scrappage is commonly saved by many as a JPG or JPEG file for later printing or emailing to friends and family.
- If you should later find you need to change your scrappage for whatever reason you will soon discover that you lose image resolution quality when you edit and resave a JPG file.
- For this reasons it is always best to save your creations as the paint shop pro format or Photo Shop format if that is the program you use.
- This way you can open your saved psp or psd file, make the required changes and resave the file as a JPG file without losing any resolution or image quality.
Remember the more you edit and save a JPG file the more quality you lose!
Back up and Back up your back ups!
- I have lost count to the number of times I have had request for help to retreive lost files, photos and image collections. If you have an external hard drive always make a back up of your imporatant files..
- And I would suggest you also make CD back up copeis in the event that you external hard drive becomes sick too.
