Tools You will Need

  • Corel Paint Shop Pro - Get it HERE
  • Jasc Animation Shop
  • Almathera Plug-in Collection (free plugins) - Get it Here
Install the Almathera Plug-in into your PSP Plugins folder before you start the tutorial.
  • Image or Tube of your choice that you want to add a water reflection to.
  • Image used for tutorial is flower.

This tutorial has been written for PSP 9, however I believe you will find that this tutorial can be completed in all Paint Shop Pro versions, the effects and tools may be located in different menus.

The supplied tube is from share groups, if the tube is your’s plesae contact me
and I will give you credit where due.

Step 1. Open the image or tube that you would like animated with a water reflection. Your image or tube does not have to have any water on the image to acheive this effect as you will see.

Step 2. I suggest that you duplicate your image so that you are working on a copy and not your original. Click on Layers and select Duplicate. Alternative you can use the keyboard short cut Shift+D.

Step 3. Your tube or image must be a raster layer, if you have a background layer and not a raster layer, click on Layers and select Promote Background Layer.

Step 4. Rename your Raster 1 layer to “Reflection 1″ by clicking on Layers, and select Properties. In the Layer Properties box replace the words “Raster” with the word “water”

Step 5. To achieve the moving water effect you will need 3 duplicate copies of your image or tube. The simplest way to acheive this is to duplicate your Water 1 layer three times. Click on Layers and select Duplicate.

Step 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have four layers named, Reflection 1, Reflection 2, and Reflection 3.

Step 7. Next we need to select the area of your image or tube that will be changed to a water reflection. I use the bottomsections of my image or tube, but that is up to you. So now lets make your Reflection 1 layer active by clicking on layer Reflection 1 in your layer pallet. If you can not see your layer pallet press F8 on your keyboard and it should appear.

Step 8. Using your Layer Pallet turn off visibility to the Reflection 2, and Reflection 3 layers. You only want your Reflection 1 layer visible at this point.

Step 9. From the Tools bar select the Selection tool and adjust your tool options as follows:

Step 10. Hold down your left mouse button while you drag your mouse to make your box selection (marching ants). This is the area that your reflection will appear within when we are done.

Step 13. Your image / tube will now show the water reflection effect within the box selection you made in step 10. DO NOT DESELECT.

Step 14. Click on your next layer “Reflection 2″ to make it the active layer. Apply the steps 11 to 13 however you need to reduce the Scale level of the Almathera Puddle plugin by 2. Example: Reflection 1 is 70, Reflection 2 is 68, and Reflection 3 is 66.

Step 15. Continue with adding the “Almathera Puddle plugin” effect to your remaining Reflection 3 layer by applying steps 11 to 13. Remembering to reduce the Scale number for each layer. When you have applied the Almathera Puddle plugin to all of your layers you may deselect.

Step 16. Save your image or tube as a Animation Shop / Paint Shop Pro compatabile file. This means be sure to save your psp file in a version that can be read in Animation Shop. You can adjust this by clicking the options button when you click on Save As. Next the animation.

Step 17. Open Animation Shop and open your saved PSP file from step 16.

Step 18. Click on Edit and Select All. This will highlight all of the frames in your open animation.

Step 19. To adjust the speed in which the water movement appears you need to set the Frame speed of your animation. Click on Animation and select Frame Properties. Enter a number between 15 and 30 depending on your image. For the tutorial sample image we used 23.

Step 20. Click on File and select Save to save your Animation. Depending on your image you may need to optimise your image to suit.
