Wavy Ribbon Tut with Paint Shop Pro

Creating ribbons in Paint Shop Pro, fun and easy with a realistic wave is what I will show you today. This tutorial is an alternative to the Ribbon Satin Tutorial posted last week and requires the use of an external plugin.

This tutorial assumes you know your way around Paint Shop Pro and was written in PSP XII but I am sure it can be used in other versions of Paint Shop Pro.

Tools Needed:

  • Paint Shop Pro - available here - This tutorial was written for PSPXII, but other versions should work.

Step 1. Create a new blank image that is 2400 x 140 300dpi transparent.

Step 2. Set your background to your chosen colour in your Material Pallet

Step 3. Flood Fill your image with the chosen colour

Step 4. Eye Candy 4000, select Swirl adjust settings with Spacing 98.08, Smear Length 140, Twist 70, Streak Detail 70, Random Speed 5.

Step 5. Adjust Blur, Gaussian blur of 6

Step 6. Selections, Select All

Step 7. Selections, Modify, Contract by 10

Step 8. Selection Invert

Step 9. Effects, Texture Effects, Blinds with settings Width 4, Opacity 85, uncheck horizontal, check light from left top, set colour by clicking on the colour sample and using the dropper to select a darker shade from the ribbon image.

Step 10. Selection Select None

Step 11. Image Canvas Size Width 2500, Height 240 Place centre

Step 12. Effects, Distortion Effects, Wave with settings, H Amplitude: 0, Wavelength: 1, V Amplitude: 4, Wavelength 4:, Edge Mode Transparent.

Step 13. Using the Pick Tool, stretch the ribbon at the left and right sides so that it is off the canvass and you can no longer see the side edged border blind created in the previous steps.

Step 14. Export and PNG and you’re done.
